The Solo Stove Ranger is a fire bowl that drastically reduces smoke from open fires. The patented technology maximizes the airflow and the burning process. The content burns almost completely – smoke particles do not get into the air.
How the Solo Stove Ranger works
Airflow
Rising hot air and the lack of oxygen produced by the combustion process draws air through the lower vents. This movement of air heats the fire at its base and at the same time pushes preheated air through the vents at the top of the combustion chamber.
Ash pan
The ash pan catches loose ash and prevents it from clogging the airflow. The ash pan also acts as a heat shield and reduces heat transfer from the fire to the ground below.
Base plate
The base plate enables the direct supply of oxygen from below into the embers. This helps to burn the fuel faster and hotter, while the spent ash can fall out of the process.
Secondary combustion
Vent holes near the top of the combustion chamber allow the flame to be fired with preheated oxygen, resulting in more complete combustion and a hotter fire with less smoke.
Ring of fire
The fire ring is formed from a single piece of 304 stainless steel, deep-drawn with precision tools and hand polished. The fire ring is designed to keep the fire centered and even. It sits securely on the top. When turned upside down, it can be stored inside for safekeeping.

On the website of Solo Stove, besides the rangers, various fire bowls, grills and camping stoves in different sizes and designs are offered.
The BioLite company has a more technical approach. Here the wood not only burns smoke-free, but also produces electricity. The fire bowl can therefore be used to charge smaller electrical devices such as smartphones during the campfire evening. We took a look at the BioLite CampStove 2.
